A Zapd App Update, A Web Based Editor, and Your Ideas!

In the few weeks since our launch we’ve been diligently working away to put the final touches on our web-based editor, and address a few issues some of you have noticed with the app. We’re happy to announce some news on both fronts!

Our first app update is available in the iTunes store. You can check for updates on your device, or grab it right from iTunes here: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/zapd/id426955081?mt=8&ls=1#

This update includes various fixes to help you Zap even faster! We’ve improved stability and performance over our first version and we’ve simplified the account set up process. We’ve found that the devil actually is in the details. True story. We’ll continue to build on this to keep Zapd running like a Porsche in Death Valley. Or a Mitsubishi in one of those “S” shaped road commercials. Maybe in our next release you’ll be able to make a website in 30 seconds.

Highlights of the update include:

  • We’ve streamlined sign up and sign in (sign up is now a single step)
  • Newly created or most recently edited Zaps now appear at the top of your Zap list
    • Note: this is not related to Zap content – new Zap content is still added to the bottom of your page. However, you can reorder any of your content anytime. We’ve heard many users request that new content be added to the top of a page – this is in the works!
    • Picture uploads are now faster and more stable
    • Zap previews are faster
    • Much improved speed and application stability, especially for users outside North America

So please, grab the new update. It’s faster, and it’s free. Or if you haven’t checked out Zapd yet – what are you waiting for? It’s free!

Speaking of checking Zapd out… Don’t have an iPhone or iPad, or other iDevice? Don’t even have a phone with a camera thing? That’s cool with us. Hop over to http://zapd.com and you too can make a website in less than 60 seconds. We’ve just launched our wed-based version of the Zapd application, so you can now create, or edit Zaps right from your desktop browser. Sign up or sign in using the handy links in the top right corner of our homepage.

Our web-editor works seamlessly with the app – so you can jump back and forth using Zapd on your computer or your mobile, picking up right where you left off.

Lastly, you’ve asked for it, and we’ve been listening, and listening, and listening. Thank you all so much for your feedback. It’s been so interesting to see all the different ways so many people are using Zapd and making it their own. But we know you want more, and we want to give it to you. More tools and more sharing, and yes occasionally more fixes!

So we’ve set up an account with the lovely folks at Get Satisfaction where you can voice your opinions about where you want Zapd to go, and see where other people want Zapd to go. You can see if a bug has been reported, report a new one, or even just give us some props. We’ll be updating all the feedback quickly to let you know what we’re working on.

You’ll see a small “Feedback” tab on the side of the Zapd website soon, as well as a new tab on our Facebook page. For now, you can head right here to take a look and contribute:

Again, we just want to take another moment to thank everyone who has helped make our kickoff such a great success internationally. Zapd has been among the top 10 apps in dozens of countries, and was even the iTunes App of the Week in the UK. Thanks for sharing, reviewing, and Zapping. Keep doing that and we’ll keep working.

  1. I just downloaded your app and love it. I’ll play a bit more with it at the NYC International Auto Show tomorrow.

However some FAQs would be nice.

For example, does each new Zap create a unique web address? Aside from your gallery, how does one find other zapd users? Does it make more sense to just add to an existing zap or create more?

No worries for the moment as I’ll just have fun figuring this all out.

      Hi carbonboy,

Hope you enjoy using Zapd at the car show!

Just in case you haven’t yet — Yes each new Zap has it’s own unique URL. We will be adding the option to choose your own domain in the future.

You can find lots of Zapd users on twitter! https://twitter.com/#!/search/zapd

You will have to figure out the answer to your last question on your own :)

Love your app! Is an iPad or universal update coming?? Sure hope so.

Thanks for such an awesome app.

Thanks for the comments! Yes Sinbad, we are creating an iPad version. You can also make a zap on your desktop by signing in on our homepage.

I have been trying to upload photos today and I am brand new to zapd….having some trouble. It has been loading one photo for hours now with no luck. Is there a trick I should know about? Thanks! Also, is there somewhere else to send troubleshooting questions to that I didn’t see?

Hi. I have a minor concern. Whenever I post something new and share it on facebook, the oldest picture (that I posted) shows up. I wonder if this is going to be changed at some point. And everytime I look at the website, the recent post is at the bottom of the page. Is that how it is designed? If it is, maybe I’m just not used to it because usually the recent post should be on the top of the page. Thanks.

      Hi!

Facebook maintains control over what thumbnails are associated with a specific URL, because of the nature of our App this is unlikely to change. We’ve got a “new posts at top” button now – have you found it?

  5. Very cool app. Suggestion: ‘Minimal Modern’ is a great theme, but the photo captions are WAY TOO FAR UP THE PHOTO! They block too much of each snapshot. I like the style of the caption being ‘on top of’ each pic, but would it be possible to move it down so it doesnt distract? Nitpicky, I know, but…

Thanks, and keep up the good work…

      Hi Adam,

Aw. Sorry you don’t like it. It is a rather unique theme. You can always skip the photo caption and add a text box below the photo instead! The bar through the image is as short as your caption, so if you just enter one word, it won’t extend further than those characters.

  6. Very easy app to use. Hard to publish. I am using the app with 3 classes of fifth graders. It has been hard to publish.

      Hi Andrea,

We do apologize for this inconvenience – we’re working on fixes now to be released very soon – we’ll have you up and running in the next couple weeks!
