msnbc’s Wilson Roth checks out Zapd in his App Smashup. Thanks!
Comments are here!!
Check the bottom of your Zaps. Commenting has been implemented. You can comment and view comments via a web browser now and in about a week you’ll be able to view and delete comments right from the Zapd app itself .
We are so excited to be where we are. Over the last few weeks you’ve been telling us where you’d like to see Zapd go and we’ve been listening. As always, the way we’ve approached things is to develop correctly for each device. To view comments on your iPhone, you simply swipe to the right. Swipe to the left to view your profile.
Similarly, comments are correctly oriented on your iPad. Indeed, most folks still don’t realize that when they make a Zap they are in fact making three separate and wholly optimized websites.
The next update we release will actually allow you to get notifications on your phone each time someone leaves a comment. And, you’ll even be able to select a custom URL as well! Pretty cool. Hopefully we’ll have time to add in a few other surprises as well. Maybe a new theme or two? Why not.
We’re busily developing new features to make Zapd the de facto standard for making beautiful, instant websites from wherever you are. In the brief few weeks since we’ve launched, hundreds of thousands of you have shown us a myriad of ways you use Zapd. Parties. Vacations. Graduations. Weddings. Businesses. We can’t wait to see where you’ll point us next.
Got more good ideas?
Please don’t hesitate to drop me an email and let me know!

Thanks lifehacker
Yesterday, Adam Dachis, a writer at lifehacker, took Zapd for a spin. We’re proud to say that this prolific tech writer likes our app.
@LifeHacker tweeted about it to their 130,000 followers. Then dozens of others retweeted the review to their followers. The word “Zapd” was tossed in front of nearly 200,000 people in about an hour.
Twitter is amazing.
Fresh Updates on Their Way for Monday
Starting Monday, every Zap that has been so artfully put together will automagically feature a commenting area at the bottom. This feature will be limited to browser view for about a week. To leave a comment, visitors will need to log in via Facebook or Zapd. You will also need to be logged in to delete comments on your Zap.
We want you to be able to enjoy Zaps with your friends and family in an interactive, conversational way. Happy chatting!
Zapd is iTunes App of the Week – Passes 200,000 Download Mark
As of this morning, Zapd is officially one month old, but we’ve grown up fast.
In our first week, we welcomed people from all over the world as they kicked the tires making Zaps for nearly any conceivable purpose. iTunes even showcased Zapd as a top New App!
In our second week we were featured in “What’s Hot”. The third week brought us the distinction as iTunes app of the week in the UK! And now this week…
Zapd is featured as App of the Week in iTunes in the United States. Wow. That’s big news for us on the heels of an update we released last week, along with our new web-based editor. We’re now in the top 10 in 11 different countries and in the top 20 in many more.
And this weekend we passed 200,000 downloads. That makes us the fastest growing iPhone app in April. People are making and sharing sites at a record pace. It’s very exciting.
As I’ve said before, we’re humbled, but also committed to bringing forth the best possible ideas in mobile publishing. We have big plans and we continue to get great feedback from the tens of thousands of new users trying the app for the first time every day.
We’re moving quickly towards our goal of 1 million downloads, working harder than ever, and listening. Drop us a note, or reach out to us here: http://getsatisfaction.com/zapd
Take a moment to review the app if you haven’t already. Share your Zaps. Tell a friend and have fun with it.
To our enthusiastic fans all over the world, from all of us at Zapd, thanks again.

A Zapd App Update, A Web Based Editor, and Your Ideas!
In the few weeks since our launch we’ve been diligently working away to put the final touches on our web-based editor, and address a few issues some of you have noticed with the app. We’re happy to announce some news on both fronts!
Our first app update is available in the iTunes store. You can check for updates on your device, or grab it right from iTunes here: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/zapd/id426955081?mt=8&ls=1#
This update includes various fixes to help you Zap even faster! We’ve improved stability and performance over our first version and we’ve simplified the account set up process. We’ve found that the devil actually is in the details. True story. We’ll continue to build on this to keep Zapd running like a Porsche in Death Valley. Or a Mitsubishi in one of those “S” shaped road commercials. Maybe in our next release you’ll be able to make a website in 30 seconds.
Highlights of the update include:
- We’ve streamlined sign up and sign in (sign up is now a single step)
- Newly created or most recently edited Zaps now appear at the top of your Zap list
- Note: this is not related to Zap content – new Zap content is still added to the bottom of your page. However, you can reorder any of your content anytime. We’ve heard many users request that new content be added to the top of a page – this is in the works!
- Picture uploads are now faster and more stable
- Zap previews are faster
- Much improved speed and application stability, especially for users outside North America
So please, grab the new update. It’s faster, and it’s free. Or if you haven’t checked out Zapd yet – what are you waiting for? It’s free!
Speaking of checking Zapd out… Don’t have an iPhone or iPad, or other iDevice? Don’t even have a phone with a camera thing? That’s cool with us. Hop over to http://zapd.com and you too can make a website in less than 60 seconds. We’ve just launched our wed-based version of the Zapd application, so you can now create, or edit Zaps right from your desktop browser. Sign up or sign in using the handy links in the top right corner of our homepage.
Our web-editor works seamlessly with the app – so you can jump back and forth using Zapd on your computer or your mobile, picking up right where you left off.
Lastly, you’ve asked for it, and we’ve been listening, and listening, and listening. Thank you all so much for your feedback. It’s been so interesting to see all the different ways so many people are using Zapd and making it their own. But we know you want more, and we want to give it to you. More tools and more sharing, and yes occasionally more fixes!
So we’ve set up an account with the lovely folks at Get Satisfaction where you can voice your opinions about where you want Zapd to go, and see where other people want Zapd to go. You can see if a bug has been reported, report a new one, or even just give us some props. We’ll be updating all the feedback quickly to let you know what we’re working on.
You’ll see a small “Feedback” tab on the side of the Zapd website soon, as well as a new tab on our Facebook page. For now, you can head right here to take a look and contribute:

Again, we just want to take another moment to thank everyone who has helped make our kickoff such a great success internationally. Zapd has been among the top 10 apps in dozens of countries, and was even the iTunes App of the Week in the UK. Thanks for sharing, reviewing, and Zapping. Keep doing that and we’ll keep working.
Zapd App Reaches 100,000 Downloads
We’re very excited to announce that in the two weeks since we’ve launched, we watched the odometer tick past the 100,000 downloads mark in the iTunes store. What a two weeks it’s been! Interviews, reviews, and tutorials have been released by Techcrunch, Gizmodo, Engadget, Cnet, Geekwire, Techflash, Fox News, All Things D, and many others. The interest has been eye opening, humbling, and very exciting.
We’ve learned a lot with all the eager Zappers out there kicking the tires. Having the app in the hands of so many people has given us tons of insight into wants and needs of Zapd users and the possibilities for Zapd going forward.
There is a universe of Zaps that are being created in the blink of an eye. We’ve seen Zaps from foodies, sports fans, photographers, artists, and business owners. Zaps have been used as vacation logs, lunch logs, wedding albums, memorial tributes, event calendars, classified listings, and even personal resumes. Our users are teaching us 100’s of unique ways to use and share Zaps each and every minute. Incredible.
Since we’re aiming for 1 million, we wanted to let everyone know that we’re listening and rapidly developing new features for upcoming releases. And we want to get them out in weeks, not months.
We are pursuing additional avenues to making Zaps unique and indispensable to highly mobile users. We understand that privacy options, private sharing and custom URLs are important, so we are in the process of developing them. We will also be adding comments and other interactive features that help you build your own communities. Video support, groups and new themes will also be coming as well as an Android version.
We’re all about websites in 60 seconds. Capturing your best thoughts and images while on the go. Our top priority is to ensure all of this new functionality is as fast, easy and fun to use as you would expect it to be.
So we want to say thanks to all of you who have so enthusiastically taken to Zapd! If you haven’t given us a try, take a look at some of the reviews, and download the app – it’s fast, free and fun! If you like Zapd, tell a friend, and head back to the iTunes store to give the app a quick review. It only takes a minute and it helps us immensely.
Thanks again and please send us your best Zaps!

Kelly and Mika Show Off Zapd for the Camera
Tricia Duryee from All Things Digital, part of the Wall Street Journal Digital Network, got her video camera on Kelly and Mika as they showed off Zapd’s capabilities on the fly while talking about Zapd’s inception and where we’re headed with the app.
It’s another great review with some insight from our founders, live and in color, and definitely worth a look!
Zapd and the Mobile-Centric Evolution of Publishing
The mechanisms for interacting with others online have been trending mobile for a while now. It’s a natural development – we’ve always intrinsically reached for the most immediate and straightforward communication tool we have handy. We move from emailing to texting, and from texting to group texts. With smartphones becoming ubiquitous, the possibilities that are literally at your fingertips keep growing, beyond social interaction. As sites and services improve the ability to communicate and create on the go, a time comes when what was a movement becomes the new standard.
With Zapd enabling a new kind of freedom to publish as easily as you might send a text message – are we nearing a shift? Dominic Basulto from Big Think believes we are approaching The Web’s Copernican Moment, that it’s been building for a while, and that the launch of Zapd could be a milestone. The article is a great read, and touches on a lot of thinking that lead us here.
What do you think – are we past the tipping point already? Or is the real change still coming with something we haven’t seen yet?
We Love This Kid’s Enthusiasm!
What a way to start off week two here at Zapd! We’re going on our fourth day on the app store homepage, getting lots of love from the blogosphere, and great feedback from you, our users. Like our buddy Kagen here, we are super appreciative of all the comments we’ve been getting from all you lovely people as you Zap away! We really want to make our app the best we possibly can make it, and hearing your suggestions and opinions is a huge part of that, so thank you for all your support and feedback and by all means, if you have a question or a suggestion please let us know, we’re listening!
