Zapd and the Mobile-Centric Evolution of Publishing

The mechanisms for interacting with others online have been trending mobile for a while now. It’s a natural development – we’ve always intrinsically reached for the most immediate and straightforward communication tool we have handy. We move from emailing to texting, and from texting to group texts. With smartphones becoming ubiquitous, the possibilities that are literally at your fingertips keep growing, beyond social interaction. As sites and services improve the ability to communicate and create on the go, a time comes when what was a movement becomes the new standard.

With Zapd enabling a new kind of freedom to publish as easily as you might send a text message – are we nearing a shift? Dominic Basulto from Big Think believes we are approaching The Web’s Copernican Moment, that it’s been building for a while, and that the launch of Zapd could be a milestone. The article is a great read, and touches on a lot of thinking that lead us here.

What do you think – are we past the tipping point already? Or is the real change still coming with something we haven’t seen yet?
